Celebrating World Oceans Day

Celebrating World Oceans Day is something we do here at Walker’s Dive Charters every day. World Oceans Day is a reminder to stop and think about our life-giving oceans and the importance of caring for them. Every day on the ocean we are mindful of the items, such as plastic and fishing tackle, that harm our ocean and its inhabitants, so we are always in clean-up mode. You will often see us stopping in the middle of our trip to pickup a U.F.O. (Unidentified Floating Object). Plastic, in particular, has a detrimental effect on our sea turtles, so every little bit that we can remove can make a difference.

150608-095816-0036During today’s dives on the southern reefs, we removed fishing line, a balloon, and a bunch of plastic. On our surface interval we removed more plastic, including a large plastic bucket, from a sargassum weed line. As I mentioned in yesterday’s dive blog, “All good deeds towards nature are rewarded.” Our dives were gifted with many sea turtle encounters and even the fish appeared to be in (extra) celebratory mood. Did I mention we had 60ft+ of visibility, 80 degree water temperature, and no current?!?! Yeah! Mother ocean is definitely spoiling us. The least we can do is take care of her as best as we can. Won’t you join us and do your part to make our planet a better place for all living creatures?
